I’ve seen this scam in several forms, usually originating from overseas…  below is one recent example.  Always check with your webmaster or domain register directly before agreeing to renew or transfer any domains.

There are two ways to avoid this scam:

• Renew your domains for two or more years (scammers look for domains which are coming up for renewal in the next six months)
• Add Privacy to you domain ($7.95 per year)

Example Scan Email:

Dear President&CEO,
We are a domain name dispute and  register organization. Currently, we have a pretty important issue needing to confirm with your company. On May 3. 2011, we received an application formally.A company named “Karlson International Holdings Co. Ltd ” submitted the application to our organization, and they required to register some domain names with the Internet search keyword of “<your company name>”.

Now we are handling with the registration of these domain names and find that the keyword of these domain names and Internet search keyword is identical with your company’s. So we have to confirm with you at two points:
1. If your company has consigned or authorized Karlson to apply to register those domain names and the Internet search keyword with us, then we will finish their registration according to the procedures.
2. If your company has not consigned or authorized Karlson to apply to register those domain names and the Internet search keyword , then according to our working experience, they might have other purposes. So we have responsibility to confirm with you.

Now we temporarily have not finished the registration for Karlson , but delayed their application through the procedures, but this is not the best way. In order to solve this case in a better way, please contact me through email or phone in the very first asaastime. Waiting for your reply.
